21 Kurds sentenced to 21 years for a petition

21 people were sentenced to 21 years imprisonment for "terrorist propaganda” by signing under the campaign “Mr Öcalan is my political will” on 5 April 2006 in Varto, a district of Mus province.

The case in Van 4. High Criminal Court against 21 people has resulted yesterday. At the trial, defendants Abdulnasır Taş, Bülent Çatak, Şengül Çatak, Metin Catak, Bülent Ağlar, Kaya Akkoyun, Abdulselam Han, Hanım Han, Ceyhan Han, Zübeyde Sever, Zahide Catak, Hanım Catak, Güler Catak, Nakip Gümgüm, Yeter Gümgüm, Ferhat Gümgüm, Muzeyyen Şahin, Hanım Karataş, Mihriban Karataş, Vedat Han and Fevziye Karataş were sentenced to one year imprisonment and 429 thousand 70 TL penalty fine for legal expenses.

They signed a petition in 2006 saying that Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan is the representative of Kurdish people.

More thatn three million Kurds signed the petition and represented it to Turkish officials.
