Iran: Kurdish prisoner tortured to death, his mother set herself on fire

Iranian regime which is notorious for executions and torture has tortured another Kurdish prisoner called Behmen Mesudi to death. The prisoner’s mother set fire on herself in front of the Urmiye prison in order to protest her son’s death.

It is reported that Behmen Mesudi, a Kurdish prisoner kept in Urmiye prison of East Kurdistan was tortured to death on 22 August. Witnesses stated that Mesudi lost his life due to the strikes he received in the head by a prison guard called Khanzadeh.

After his mother was informed about her son’s death she also set fire on her body in front of the Urmiye prison in order to protest the son’s death. While the Iranian officials failed to make a statement regarding the incident they also refuse to give any information about the mother’s health conditions.

Urmiye prison became a torture centre

With this recent incident the number of the controversial death incidents of the Kurdish prisoners in Iran this year reached 8. Most of the incidents took place in Urmiye prison.

On 18 April a non-political Kurdish prisoner called İrec Xemengiz lost his life under suspicious circumstances. The other inmates who wanted to protest this death were also subjected to mistreatment.

Seyfedin Yehyazade was also tortured to death by the prison guards led by Ekber Pishewer, head of special forces in Urmiye prison.

On 12 May 44-year old Zahir Mistefewi was reported to have dies due to the tortures he was subjected for a long term.

Similarly, on 14 August Zeki Ercan applied Human Rights Association in

Istanbul and complaint about the torture that his Turkish national brother Metin Ercan is subjected in Urmiye prison. He stated that his brother’s tongue was cut off and he was deprived of medical treatment.
